BET to Air ‘Carl Weber’s The Family Business’ as Drama Series

BET Networks announced Wednesday that it has acquired the licensing rights to air the indie film franchise Carl Weber’s The Family Business as a series.

The eight-part drama is based on the crime novels written by New York Times bestselling author Carl Weber.

The story centers on L.C. Duncan, portrayed by Ernie Hudson, and the secret life of his prominent family on the streets of Jamaica, Queens. While Duncan decides which of his children should take over his thriving exotic car dealership, the family faces conflict from the mafia and drug cartels.

Hudson executive produced the drama, and the cast includes Basketball Wives’ Tami Roman; New York Undercover’s Malik Yoba; Soul Food series actor Darrin Henson; and Next Friday actor Clifton Powell.

Carl Weber’s The Family Business is a gloriously addictive series and a prime example of BET’s on-going commitment to tell compelling dramatic, character-driven original stories, anchored in the Black experience,” Maureen Guthman, senior vice president of Content Strategy at BET Networks, said in a press statement.  “We look forward to our partnership with Tri Destined Studios, Urban Books Media and are thrilled to welcome Carl Weber to the BET family.”

The series will debut at 9 p.m. Nov. 13 on BET.
