Beyonce & More Cast in Live-Action Remake of ‘The Lion King’

Cast selections for Disney’s upcoming remake of The Lion King have been floating around the web for months, with the animation studio finally revealing the official cast list this Wednesday. The live-action version of the Disney favorite will star several A-listers, including Atlanta creator and part-time rapper Donald Glover as Simba and the queen herself, Beyonce, as Nala.

James Earl Jones will reprise his role from the 1994 movie as Simba’s father, Mufasa while wife Sarabi will be played by Emmy-winner Alfre Woodard. Mufasa’s devious brother Scar will be played by 12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor while John Kani of Captain America: Civil War will step in as Rafiki. Original actor Robert Guillaume passed away October 24th.

Comedians Billy Eicher and Seth Rogan will play Simba’s best buds, Timon and Pumbaa while Last Week Tonight host John Oliver will voice Mufasa’s advisor Zazu.

The Lion King is just the latest Disney classic to get a live-action revamp, as both The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast have already proven successful remakes. Live-action versions of Aladdin (with Will Smith starring as the Genie) Dumbo, Mulan, The Sword in the Stone, Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Little Mermaid are expected as well, according to This Is Insider.
