Issa Rae to Star in Upcoming Comedy, ‘American Princess’

Issa Rae is best known for her hit HBO series, Insecure. The California girl is now extending her resume even more so after landing the lead role in upcoming comedy, American Princess.

Rae was reportedly sought out for the movie by film executive Paul Feig, known for his work on NBC’s American version of The Office and for directing female-led comedies Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters (2016). Everything, Everything’s Stella Meghie will co-direct beside Feig, according to The Jasmine Brand.

American Princess will center around Rae’s character, an American woman, who moves to London and falls in love unexpectedly after being exposed to a world of wealth and high society.

While a production date has yet to be set, fans can catch Rae in The Hate U Give with Amandla Stenberg October 19.

Born and raised in Compton, California, Jessica Bennett began her career as an intern at The Oakland Post, and later, The Source Magazine. She went on to write for respected hip hop publications such as DJ Booth and Hip Hop DX before becoming the Urban Editor of pop culture website, Wetpaint.com. She joined Ebony as the Entertainment Editor August 2017. Bennett has interviewed such names as Vanessa Williams, Spike Lee, Tyra Banks, Forest Whitaker, Magic & Cookie Johnson and several others.
