‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Emmy Nod Could Land John Legend an EGOT

The 2018 Emmy nominations were announced this morning, with NBC’s live production of Jesus Christ Superstar garnering 13 from the academy. Leading man John Legend has been nominated for two awards himself, making him an EGOT winner if he takes home just one award.

The list of EGOT winners, which includes those who have one an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award, is only 12 names long. Thus far, Whoopi Goldberg is the only Black person to accomplish the feat, but could soon be joined by the R&B crooner.

Legend earned an Oscar with good friend and frequent collaborator, Common (also one award away from EGOTing), for Best Original Song in 2015, a Tony for co-producing Broadway hit Jitney several Grammys for that signature vibrato we’ve all come to know and love.

Wife Chrissy Teigen took the time to congratulate her hubby on the nomination and wish him the best.

Born and raised in Compton, California, Jessica Bennett began her career as an intern at The Oakland Post, and later, The Source Magazine. She went on to write for respected hip hop publications such as DJ Booth and Hip Hop DX before becoming the Urban Editor of pop culture website, Wetpaint.com. She joined Ebony as the Entertainment Editor August 2017. Bennett has interviewed such names as Vanessa Williams, Spike Lee, Tyra Banks, Forest Whitaker, Magic & Cookie Johnson and several others.
