John Legend & Chrissy Teigen Get Teary Talking About Their Love

Singer John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, shared a heartwarming moment at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards ceremony in New York City on Monday night. Teigen was on this year’s list of honorees, which included actress Viola Davis, musical artist Janelle Monáe and Saudi women’s rights activist Manal al-Sharif.

Legend introduced his wife by recounting a moment when the supermodel/chef felt like she wasn’t fit to stand among such prominent women.

“We were at this big event, and she was crying in a dressing room because she felt so overwhelmed by the illustrious company she was in,” the EGOT winner said of his wife.

He continued, overwhelmed with emotion: “We were celebrating the TIME 100, and she felt like she didn’t belong. How could she be worthy of the likes of Oprah, [International Monetary Fund Chairwoman] Christine Lagarde, Michelle Obama?”

Legend assured his wife that she is “more than worthy of this honor.”

The couple met in 2007 on the set of a Legend music video and wed in 2007. They welcomed their children, Luna and Miles, in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

“I am amazed by the woman that you’ve become,” he said in closing. “And I’m truly glad that the rest of the world has finally found out about it, too.”

Teigen took the stage and thanked her “trophy husband” for all his support—even though he “didn’t cry when I was giving birth,” she joshed.

“I joke about it a lot, but I truly have the most incredible husband on the planet,” the mother of two said. “You are our everything. You completely made me a woman. We’ve grown together. Our family’s grown together. Our careers have grown together. This is so sappy. I’m sorry. I hate it,” she added. “I didn’t cry during our wedding. I hate you, John, I really do.”

Teigen gave an empowering speech about being seen for who she is, which can be read in full on Glamour.com.
