Kardashians Credited With ‘Glass Hair’ Trend, Better Known As The Silk Press

Marie Claire is the latest publication to catch heat for crediting a Kardashian with creating something Black women have done for decades.

The magazine is currently under fire for publishing an article about a new trend they call “glass hair,” saying the Kardashians are the main inspiration for the look. The style is more accurately known as a silk press, a method stylists have been using for years to smooth hair to a shiny, glass-like finish.

After crediting Kim and Khloe Kardashian with starting the trend, Black Twitter fired back with photos of stars like Rihanna, Gabrielle Union, Taraji P. Henson and even the legendary Cicely Tyson all rocking a silk press before the reality show sisters made it cool.

Check out an outraged Black Twitter below.

Born and raised in Compton, California, Jessica Bennett began her career as an intern at The Oakland Post, and later, The Source Magazine. She went on to write for respected hip hop publications such as DJ Booth and Hip Hop DX before becoming the Urban Editor of pop culture website, Wetpaint.com. She joined Ebony as the Entertainment Editor August 2017. Bennett has interviewed such names as Vanessa Williams, Spike Lee, Tyra Banks, Forest Whitaker, Magic & Cookie Johnson and several others.
