Oprah Becomes one of World’s 500 Richest People

Oprah Winfrey became one of the world’s 500 richest people on Monday, according to Bloomberg.

The mogul’s fortune hit $4 billion, further cementing her place as one the world’s richest and becoming the first Black female entrepreneur on the Bloomberg Billionaire Index where she sits at 494 on the list.

The 64-year-old media titan’s increased her fortune by $427 million in 2018,  largely in part to the stock performance of Weight Watchers International Inc.

In 2015, Winfrey invested $43.5 million into Weight Watchers and became the spokeswoman for the company. Her initial investment is now worth over $400 million.

She is also expanding her media empire having just signed a deal with Apple for their new video streaming service.

Winfrey joins 64 other women on Bloomberg’s list.
