Robin Roberts Partners With Lifetime to Produce Mahalia Jackson Biopic

Robin Roberts is ready to take the story of Gospel legend Mahalia Jackson to the small screen. The Good Morning America host has teamed up with Lifetime to produce a series of films and docuseries’ under her Robin Roberts Presents banner, beginning with Jackson’s story of faith and favor.

According to Variety, Roberts will produce alongside Linda Berman of Lincoln Square Productions. The script has been written by Bettina Gilois.

Roberts will also be working on a project about the life of Alexis Manigo, who at 18 discovered that her legal name was Kamiyah Mobley and that she was abducted from a Florida hospital as a baby.

Each movie will be followed by a companion documentary, featuring some of the real-life characters depicted in the films.

 

Born and raised in Compton, California, Jessica Bennett began her career as an intern at The Oakland Post, and later, The Source Magazine. She went on to write for respected hip hop publications such as DJ Booth and Hip Hop DX before becoming the Urban Editor of pop culture website, Wetpaint.com.
