Michelle Williams Reveals Engagement to Chad Johnson

Michelle Williams has been in a relationship with Chad Johnson for over a year. Williams has been very private about her relationship with the pastor. After the Destiny’s Child reunion that took place during Beyoncé’s Coachella performance, the singer shared an affectionate post about finding the love she waited years for.

Now, Williams has revealed exclusively to PEOPLE that she and Johnson are engaged to be married. They went public with their relationship last July. It is said that Johnson proposed to Williams on March 21 with a 5-carat engagement ring. The couple is scheduling their wedding for this coming summer.

“I was getting ready to turn 40, she’s in her late 30s,” Johnson said about finally chosing to settle down. “Neither of us have been married, had children, and I think you just get to a place sometimes where you’re just so career-driven, so focused on what you’re doing at the moment, that it’s kind of a comfort zone. … Both of us were in very similar places on a personal level.”

Johnson is also reportedly very involved in the wedding planning. The pastor reveals that from the moment he proposed he started pitching ideas for the big day. “She was like, ‘Can we just revel in the moment, relish the feeling? ‘And I’m like, ‘Let’s go, let’s go!’”

“It’s gonna be … think James Bond-meets-Midsummer Night’s Dream — with a little hood in it [laughs]. It’s gonna be very traditional. We’re doing black-tie. We want it to be small and intimate and very private.”
