The Relentless Poverty of Albany, Georgia

What Recovery?

It is perhaps America's greatest embarrassment. And our greatest indictment. That a country with such a bevy of resources and wealth — an historically unprecedented amount of riches and power and potential to cultivate even more riches and procure even more power — has such a large percentage of its population struggling to survive. People in a poverty so deep, so everlasting, that their American experience is so different from the experience of the "haves" that they might as well be in a different country. But, they're not. This is America. And they are Americans.

Kai Wright puts a laser-focus on Albany, Georgia; a city whose struggle is an extreme version of what's happening across our land.
